Quarantine Date Night

Does your quarantine feel more like solitary confinement?

Are you stuck in the awkward season where mother nature can’t decide to stay in Winter or jump into Spring?

Me too! And as I navigate dating during these times of social distance, I think WTF. Did Steve Harvey’s idea of the 3month rule really get enforced by the government?

No, this can’t be a thing because the memories made through dating build a relationship, so below, I crafted some fun dating social distance dates (that also help the economy). Although I have separated the date-nights by relationship status, these are just ideas, please adjust accordingly.

If already in a relationship:

Outdoor Picnic

Yes, if you live in Edmonton, we are stuck between Winter and Spring. So aim for the afternoon or dress in layers.

Things You Need:

· Touchless delivery — Order your favourite meal or try something new. Don’t forget the utensils! (This will make sure the no dish experience that we love in restaurants can happen. )

· If you have children clean off that backyard table, hand them their iPad or wait till nap time/bedtime, grab your industry flashlight and eat under the stars

· No kids, grab some candles and a cheesy clothe and make your own lady and the tramp

Fortnite:

No, not the game. I mean to build an actual fort. It will bring back those first Ikea moments of wondering where the heck that one piece is. It will bond you as you think of your dream house and force your creativity out as you turn a pillow into a wall. However, please use that pillow to nap afterwards.

Workout:

Who says getting fit can’t be a date? Find a workout video you would never do on an average day and challenge each other. Why not a round of Zumba Bollywood (Yes, its a thing on youtube)

Things You Need:

· Youtube

Nightclub:

I saw a guy online who wrangled his siblings to become the bouncers and bottle service. They indeed became their characters, and even tried to cut him off, I know I wanted to be there so bad. Get your kids involved and make a family-friendly dance-club as you spin the tunes from a live Dj on Instagram.

Things You Need:

· A classic club outfit from when you first met

· Delivery of Alcohol if you drink

· A good attitude

Bowling:

Nothing is more competitive than a game of bowling. Plus, it will make you clear out the hallway you might be avoiding through this journey.

Things You Need:

· That Stress ball work gave you (Now you can say you used it)

· 10 water bottles

· Tape to sanction the line

Campfire:

Camping is not my thing, but fires, marshmallows, and hot dogs are! Sit there with some hot chocolate and stare into those flames.

Things You Need:

· A firepit

· Walk to the park in the evening and utilize those firepits that everyone forgets about until summer.

· Your favourite fire snacks

Have a Photoshoot:

Okay, this might seem weird if your partner has you on Tiktok all day but get dressed up!

Find a nearby tree and make your own fabulous pictures. Grab a tripod and make quarantine announcement photos! Yes, we survived quarantine instead of yes, we are now engaged.

Things You Need:

· A Camera

· Patience as you learn a photo editor

· Fun Outfits

The Dating Phase (With social distance)

Get Physical

Go for a bike ride because you can’t get close. You will make endorphins and keep your body moving.

Things You Need:

Zoom

Youtube workout videos

Netflix Watch Party

Obviously, Netflix, but what if you both sit through a movie that isn’t from either of your genres? Or a documentary (Like Hilary, not Tiger King and discuss societal issues to ensure you are on the same wavelength)

Pick up their groceries

Okay, this sounds weird, but be thoughtful and offer to leave food on their door. This kind act isn’t a date, but it is something you can bring to all your coworkers about and allows them to see your character past a facetime call.

Cook & Eat Together

Again video call is excellent for this. Agree to make the same dish and have a cook-off on whose looks better. If you are feeling brave, have one person make dinner, the other dessert and then agree for one person to be the touchless delivery person. Then you can eat with physical distance but social closeness!

Things You Need:

Debate a food delivery service such as Hello Fresh for this

Drive-In Movie

If either of you resides somewhere with a garage, grab a sheet, a portable projector, and snacks. Take yourself back to the simpler days and even watch a throwback. I suggest the Flintstones movie since that was there usual date-night.

Things You Need:

Projector (There pretty cheap on Amazon right now)

A sheet

Two cars (social distance)

Your favourite junk food
